The concept of this book? Amazing! As a long time Criminal Minds fan and a Mindhunter watcher I was enthralled with the idea of a girl who evaded one serial killer becoming integral in the hunt for other dangerous predators.

HOWEVER, my issue with this book is that it really dragged for me. It wasn't very thrilling, the scenes with Simon didn't even give me much of a scare. Knowing the killer in advance also did not help amp up the excitement factor, it didn't feel like I was trying to unravel a mystery anymore. That's not saying that it was poorly written, I just don't think it was the crime fighting thriller novel that it set itself up to be.

I will say that Marney did a good job in making me like Simon. It was easy to forget just how much of a monster he was. Morally, in the real world, I would never root for somebody like him but given that this is fictional and I can understand the difference, Simon was one of the most enjoyable parts of this book because he was the most fascinating for me. When we finally got to see what Simon is like in action, I think that was the most thrilling the book got.

I, a whore for all things romantic, wanted more from Bell and Emma. I was not very happy with the way that we left this book off for them. They'd grown together a lot and shared a lot of themselves, I think they were owed a little more.

The ending in general kind of disappointed me, our third act scene was pretty good but those last few pages left me with an empty feeling. What was it all for?

All in all, a great concept that wasn't as greatly executed as I had hoped but I think Marney is a good writer and I would still read more from them !
