I absolutely loved You Should See Me in a Crown so I was really excited about this one. The whole plot felt kind of rushed, but also it was kind of slow paced for me. I really liked Toni (did not hurt that her parts were narrated by Alaska Jackson who narrated You Should See Me in a Crown), but I really struggled with Olivia. For most of the story, I was just annoyed by how bad a friend she was. In the end I came around on her, but it was kind of too little too late to really sway my view on the book. Once we finally got the confirmation of the reasons behind her behavior, I felt like so much made sense, but again, it was all kind of rushed in at the end. Unfortunately this one just didn’t sit with me the same as Johnson’s first novel.
