In this memoir Sara Bareilles tells us about her life through a collection of essays. Each one is centered around one of her songs and recounts a time in her life that inspired that song or that carried the same sentiment. I found this to be a very interesting and original format, but it also made me feel like there were some things missing from her story. Nevertheless I loved finding out more about Sara’s life and her journey as an artist.  The She Used to Be Mine essay was my favourite, but that shouldn’t come as a big surprise given how much I love that song and the musical Waitress

I listened to this book on audio, because memoirs read by the author are my favourite kind of audiobook. So as always, I recommend you listen to it. What sets this one apart even more is that each essay opens with Sara singing a part of the song a cappella. (And at the very end there are some funny bloopers from the audiobook reading process.)
