The Relentless Moon by Mary Robinette Kowal
4.0
I was rather thrown by the change of viewpoint from Elma to another of the lady astronauts, Nicole Wargin, here. It took me a while to get into her head and find my rhythm in the book. But when I got there it was really good.
It was fun to have a different angle on the story, and find out more about the other characters. I was glad that the Lindholms featured prominently as I loved them in the first book and was disappointed they only had bit parts in the second. This book is, as you might expect, mostly set on the moon where in an alternate version of the 1960s there is a colony figuring out day to day life away from the meteor wrecked Earth. The story is a spy mystery at its heart which is right up my street and once it got rolling I loved it.
I'm pleased to see that there is at least another book planned for the series. These books get the historical but futuristic thing just right, tech advances in different ways but social structures have more trouble adapting.
