An Ambitious Hope (Hope Ever After #1): A Red Riding Hood Retelling by Lucy Winton

3.0

I am so so excited to read all these books in the Hope Ever After Series! Proceeds go to the OUR (Operation Underground Railroad) which spreads awareness and rescues victims of child trafficking. An excellent cause and one that I fully support.

I was ecstatic when my preorder popped on my Kindle and ended up reading it in one night due to its relatively short length and easy-to-read style.

The twist on the Red Riding Hood fairytale was interesting. I really liked the ending where the original fairytale showed through along with the new twist. Even though I'm not a big reader of magic and the like, the magical elements weren't terrible. It was a fight between good and evil.

The writing was very plot-driven, and we didn't get a chance to really get to "know" the characters aside from the basics. This is mostly my preference because I perfer character-driven stories. I felt that the ambitious hope theme was maybe trying to be a bit too obvious instead of naturally being integrated into the story for the reader. I could be wrong, I did read this late last night.

All in all, I did enjoy this and recommend it to readers of clean and wholesome fairytale retellings.
