Grim, bleak, sometimes funny, and compulsively readable. Brunetti always manages to find out the truth, but so often bumps up against corruption that means no justice will ever happen (although the meaning of "justice" in these cases is so often an abstract or senseless idea). I need to go and read something uplifting now...
