To Carve a Fae Heart
by Tessonja Odette
I really really liked the book, but the insta love thing and lack of depth to said love made it feel more like lust or infatuation to me.
Evelyn spends the majority of the book hating Aspen, and for someone who's supposed to be logical, I would have expected to read more about her internal conflict regarding her feelings for him. She goes from hate to giving in to her "passion" in the span of a few pages, then by the end, after getting intimate, and helping rescue his throne she's ready to declare her love? Passion and attraction don't equal love to me, though they are a part of it for sure. That coupled with the cliffhanger ending made me take away a star for my rating. I really dislike cliffhangers.
I loved the descriptions of the different fae creatures and the way magic works, the hints that maybe there's more to Evelyn than we know, the quick travel between the different Fae realms that we learn about towards the end, and the mysterious 12th realm and Evelyn's journey there. Overall, despite the issues I had with the relationship between the main characters, I thought it was well done and I am looking forward to reading the other books in this trilogy because I'm really curious to see how the story and relationship progress.
