American Girl really decided that Kirsten needed the trauma of her friend dying of Cholera to cheer kids up.
Though I do like that accuracy and the info at the end of the book about what immigration to the US was like for people then and how often they got cheated by people. It kind of touches on that it still happens but not exactly.
