I looked over the reviews after I finished this and dang, there are some not good ones out there, but everyone likes different stories, so guess they are entitled to their opinions. My opinion is more in the 'I liked it' category. Kat Holloway reminds me of a combination of Maisie Dobbs (Jacqueline Winspear) and Mrs. Patmore (Downton Abbey) except that there's a little more intrigue right off the bat than in the Maisie books.
I like Daniel & James and that we don't just know their stories right of the bat and that we start to learn more as we go, but still not who Daniel really is. Lady Cynthia is an interesting character and one that would certainly have caused a scene in that time & place. Elgin Thanos seems a little boring off the top, but once we see his reaction to Lady Cynthia, I think we'll see more of him.
I didn't love this, but I did like it and I enjoyed reading it, so I think I will start working on this series.
