This book is difficult and very emotionally raw. The description of a slowly rotting corpse is the framing device for these siblings' journey through Syria. There are parts that are very painful and difficult to read and overall the story is well told. I did find it a bit meandering and the lack of chapters or paragraph breaks made it hard to stop and restart the book easily. It requires a lot of focus.
