The main character had a very memorable personality, which in the often personality-devoid genre of romance I really appreciated, and I thought the way her story ended was extremely healthy and cool. I also think it cannot be understated the representational importance of having an Indigenous Australian lead in a romcom - I've never seen it anywhere else, and can't even imagine how important such a story is to the First Nations peoples in Australia (especially First Nations women). That being said, the dialogue did seem a little unrealistic at times, and the writing style was very un-subtle, which took a bit of getting used to. I also find the concept of a 2007 book receiving a 2023 "update" (which largely consists of adding current pop culture references and random mentions of COVID) very strange - I personally feel that such current pop culture references took me out of the story, and I would have honestly preferred reading the 2007 version, since my suspension of disbelief would've been more firm.
