This felt like classic Sarina Bowen since Reed kind of reminded me of Dane from Coming In From the Cold (Gravity #1) - Reed's mother died of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease which tore his family apart while Dane's mother (and later, his brother) died of Huntington's Disease and these traumas obviously affected how they saw love and relationships.
Reed and Ava were college sweethearts who broke up after she miscarried and Reed took off because it was more grief that he couldn't deal with after losing his mother.
Fast forward 10 years and his father tells him he's selling the mountain ski resort that had been in the family for 3 generations so he returns home for the first time since graduating college to find his first and only love, Ava, managing the resort, and so begins their second chance romance.
