demongrad 's review for:
I must divide this version of Poe’s writings into three categories: Poetry which was mostly “meh” (with the exception of “The Raven” which was a solid piece), short stories that would get a solid 3.5 if they were to be judged alone and a portion of essays that if I could, I would have given -5 stars.
In general Poe’s writing style is tedious and overly complicated without the advantage of meaningfulness. Especially in his essays, he sounds like an annoying teenager from 2009 that hates everyone, thinks himself better than you and locks himself up in his bedroom in order to listen to My Chemical Romance and sketch doodles from “A Nightmare Before Christmas”.
I had to DNF this book at 366 pages because I just couldn’t go on reading his whining essays about how everyone is dumb and untalented. Which says a lot for me, because it’s the first book I ever DNFed
The short stories collection in this book was pretty interesting though written in an overly complex style.
Poe reads and feels like a completely annoying person that is only b*tchin around about how his life sucks and how he’s better than you. I generally try to avoid people like that…
