Concussion by Jeanne Marie Laskas

4.0

Thanks to NetGalley for a preview of this book.

As a football fan, I hear a lot about the concussions & hard hits, and potential impact to football players' lives years after retirement. This book introduces the doctor from Nigeria who came to the U.S. to practice medicine, and he kept learning and studying, and mastering so many aspects of medicine and pathology. I could immediately feel his passion for learning and wanted to understand why people do what they do. We follow his steps as he analyzes those first samples of brain tissue to see the impact of football hits. And then we watch the story unravel from there as additional football players die or commit suicide at an early life... and their brains are analyzed. A fascinating series of learnings. I'm now eager to see the movie starring Will Smith so that I can see how this would transfer to the big screen.
