“No dolphins were harmed in the making of this shitshow.”
Second Chances in New Port Stephen by TJ Alexander was an absolute joy to read. Every character was a delight (but not you, Kay). Nick had the best golden retriever energy (think Nick Nelson from Heartstopper, but nearly 40 instead), Eli radiated trans awesomeness (albeit a little lost at times), Cora and Wendell deserve all the parental awards for just being them, Mr Wu for always knowing what to say, Max for bringing the vibes and Zoe for being everything and more. Also the manatees, for being manatees.
“This is probably the part where I’m supposed to have some kind of massive gay panic”
I was devoted to the story from page one, and flew through the last 200 pages, perhaps lingering on a few steamy ones though! The writing was perfectly paced, only a few times did I wish things hurriedly up, especially as it seems even in your late 30s people forget to *communicate their feelings* (ugh), but the ending made up for it.
I adored TJ‘s writing style and humour and can’t wait to read more of their books in the future. For now, I highly suggest you read this book!
