The Crown Conspiracy by Michael J. Sullivan

2.0

The Crown Conspiracy started out interesting enough. I enjoyed the two thieves and how they pulled a fast one. The beginning made me think it was going to revolve around the two thieves and their relationship. I thought it was going to be a buddy, adventure. Sadly, it wasn't.

It kinda was but that was the problem. It started off that way but then got way political and tried to be a mystery. I think it failed in these respects because it was easy to figure out who was behind it all and the politics wasn't done well enough for me to care. It seemed to be all over the place.

Aside from the thieves, I also didn't care for the characters. I think it's because they didn't get enough screen time or things went by too fast. I liked the monk but he was more of an info dump with his pages of stories.

There were a lot of little things that might get me to read the next book: the wizard, the mystery of the church, the non-humans in the world, I just wish all of that wasn't brushed upon here. It either seemed to incomplete or tacked on to make it a series.

If The Crown Conspiracy was focused, I think it'd be a really good book. I'm curious to see if the problems I had with it are fixed in the next book so I may pick it up.
