Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald
3.5
challenging mysterious sad medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

The writing is confusing, but once you get through the beginning, it becomes easier to get the hang of. I loved the descriptive writing, there's a lot of intrigue and something crazy is always happening, it's a book that has deeply flawed characters, there's almost nothing forgivable about any of them.

My interpretation of tender is the night is that Dick Driver is eager for money and success, which leads him to pursuing Nicole. Who is younger than him (16), and he has power over. Then, when Rosemary comes and Nicole is now too old for him, so he looks to Rosemary (18). By the end of the book, Dick is having a crisis in confidence, mostly because of grief. This causes him to lash out at everyone, especially the women in his life who he no longer has as much power over because they are more disillusioned with him.
