The Hangman's Hold
by Michael Wood
This book is about a killer who kills people who have committed crimes and then not ended up serving their full sentence and the DCI who is trying to catch him. This is a very fast paced quick read and I read it in just two sittings. It does keep you guessing throughout the book though I did have a main suspect about halfway through and I ended up being right. I also felt very underwhelmed by the killer's motivation and thought that it was a slightly disappointing ending. There is also a large cast of characters in this book and I did keep mixing a few of them up which led to some confusion throughout this book. This book is part of a series which I wasn't aware of when I picked it up but I believe that it can be read as a standalone as the mystery wrapped up in this book and I found everything explained satisfactorily. However, this could have affected my rating and while I may have enjoyed the book more if I had read the rest of the series I'm personally not convinced that it would change much. I think if you enjoy this kind of detective mystery thriller then you might really like this book it just didn't fully work for me.
