“A scar is never ugly. That is what the scar makers want us to think. A scar does not form on the dying. A scar means, I survived.”
Wow. I can safely say that this is my favorite book that I have read in a long time. Chris Cleave beautifully crafted two unique narrations, showing the diverse perspectives of Little Bee and Sarah. The sentences flowed so nicely, I was in awe for the entire book. This novel had me thinking about my awareness of the world, and how I can never be sure what someone else is going through in a different country or a place that I am not familiar with. By the end, I felt a whole range of emotions for these characters that I grew to love and I wish I could see what would happen to Sarah and Charlie after the ambiguous ending with Little Bee. I think I could rave about this book forever and I'm glad that my book club decided to read it this year.
