Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mount Everest Disaster by Jon Krakauer

dark informative medium-paced

3.0

Why anyone would want to climb Everest is just astounding to me. I’d be curious to read his take on this story like now rather than so immediately after it happened, would there be a bit more reflection or different ideas here? I appreciated how he broke down all of the tiny pieces that made for such a disaster, but I do not feel like it fully addressed every factor at play, like colonialism or maybe even the idea of the “manifest destiny” that plagues the outdoors-y population. An interesting story (though I got mixed up on the names and locations a lot) that I wished had a bit more depth, but wow! Everest is nuts!
