I just wanted to be done with this book. I didn't like the main character, the plot was pretty dull, and the romance took enemies to lovers to a rather ridiculous level. I feel like the book had the potential to be good if the main character was different, and it didn't depend so much on this particular romance. Also, I think I'm getting tired of books where the main character stays in one place the entire book and the entire plot doesn't revolve around character development. I'm in desperate need of a fast-paced adventure-y fantasy with an exciting conflict. I need a break from standalones for one thing, and especially standalones with palace life characters. I'm getting sort of tired of it and need a detox, and that might have played a part in my dislike of this book.
