Address Unknown by Kathrine Kressmann Taylor
4.0

Address Unknown by Katherine Kressmann Taylor is a very quick read in epistolary format that follows two friends during Hitler's rise to power. one of these friends is a Jewish man who lives in San Francisco, the other is a German man who recently moved from San Francisco back to Germany with his wife and children. they own an art gallery together in San Francisco.

in only 79 pages (which includes the afterword) Taylor was able to construct these two characters and their lives in a way that I found to be very believable. they had their own unique voices that were easily distinguishable from each other.

it's kind of shocking how relevant a book that was published in 1938 still is today. the way the relationship changes between our two main characters felt eerily similar to real relationships I've seen over the last handful of years. it's quite sad that things haven't changed in that regard.

I loved the ending. I don't want to spoil too much so all I'll say is he had it coming.
