Bloody Rose
by Nicholas Eames
To be completely honest, for a quarter of the book, I was worried that I wasn't going to finish it. It suffered the same issue I had with the last third of the "The Wise Man's Fear" by Patrick Rothfuss, which was all the main character focused on was sex and how attracted they were to particular individuals. I don't mind sexuality/attraction in books, but when it seems to be gripping the plot in a stranglehold, that's when I take issue.
Thankfully, I kept myself going and the plot grew stronger, where mentions of sex/attraction didn't hinder it. It turned into what I remembered "Kings of the Wyld" to be, an intense tale about the love of both chosen and blood family, riddled with action and humor. I laughed, I cried, I stayed up far too late "one more chapter"ing myself (thanks a lot, Eames).
In the end, when I read the last word in the last chapter, my heart felt just as full and I was left just as satisfied as I had been with the first. I greatly look forward to more.
