The Haunting by Natasha Preston

3.0

The Haunting by Natasha Preston takes place in a town that is trying to recover after a serial killer murdered five teenagers. Penny was forced to stop seeing her boyfriend when his dad was arrested for the murders. Now, a year later, Penny still misses Nash and wants to bring her group of friends back together. Just when she thinks that they may be able to start over, Penny finds a body and isn’t sure who she can trust anymore. This is the second Natasha Preston book I’ve read and I’m not sure she is for me. The writing style is all tell, very little show. This author loves a cliffhanger ending. It worked for me in the first book, but this one just ended… it didn’t do much in the way of concluding. The book drags along for most of it. I guessed pretty early on what was happening as well. The characters are a bit one dimensional. It did keep me engaged and I wanted to know if I was right about what was going on. I appreciate when an author isn’t afraid to kill anyone or wreck a main character’s life, and Natasha Preston isn’t afraid of that. If you like The Scream movie franchise, you will likely enjoy this book. 3/5 stars.
