I Never Promised You A Rose Garden by Hannah Green, Joanne Greenberg
5.0
This was a fascinating trip into the world of a young schizophrenic girl (Deborah) who is committed to a mental hospital in the 1940's. I found it disturbing in its portrayal of the characters' suffering and the conditions in the hospital, yet ultimately hopeful for a positive outcome for Deborah, whom I found rooting for. I felt as if I was there with there, fighting for her sanity alongside of her. The dialogue between Deborah and her therapist was fascinating, as her therapist probed into the world that Deborah had created for herself for her own survival which did become her reality.
