Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family by Omid Scobie, Carolyn Durand
5.0
I only followed from far away Meghan and Harry since the announcement of their relationship. I never been interested in the Royal family.
But after watching some videos of their wedding, I was impressed by the love we could see every time they were looking at each other. I could see they had something special, and I later followed their social media, but still from far. I have heard about the issue with the tabloids, but I don’t follow news much, even less fake news that tabloids invent. So I didn’t know how bad it had been before I read this book.
I found the book very well written. This couple is so loving and kind. The way their friends talk about them, show how much they are good people.
I recognised myself in so many ways.
Meghan was brave to abandon all her life for the man she loves. Moving to a new country, a new job. I have done it so many times, and it is already a difficult situation on its own, without the constant tabloids’ lies, intrusion of privacy and turning the family members against each other (tabloids and aides).
I also recognised myself in the way they were not listened, they were silenced by the Firm. I found similarities with what I lived and live in the companies I have worked for. I can not imagine how hurtful it can be when it’s also their own family. It is very difficult to be silenced, ignored, treated badly because I am a strong, hard-working, intelligent, experienced woman, with a voice, who talks because I know, I have experience, but always talking to the walls, it seems very often.... that’s the experience of many women, and I feel for Meghan, who left everything behind, to end up being sidelined and treated so badly, unprotected, while she seems like the sweetest person and a very smart person with a good mission in heart. People just don’t like outspoken intelligent woman, but have no issue with outspoken intelligent man.
I also relates to Harry. I am the youngest, and I am still treated at 38 like the person who still need to be taken care of, and always surprised to see family realised I actually know stuff and can take care of myself, and don’t need anybody. I think it’s good to go its separate ways from his brother. He needs to live his life the way he wants, not the way his brother wanted. They are two different people and Harry is free to choose his role in life. And leaving people behind is sometimes the best you can do. I am talking from experience.
The way press is treating people, especially them, is dispecable. I can not believe also how many racist comments and threads they received! What is wrong with people? They hate themselves, and instead of admitting it, they transfer their hate to people they don’t know anything about and bully them. That’s mad.
I was happy to read that this book was a positive book about them, telling the story as close to the truth as the authors could, that was the reason I bought the book.
It is freshly written book and very interesting to see how all the events have unfolded.
I read it in a day, which has not happened to me in a long time.
I can’t wait to see what good things M & H will do in the future.
