Angelfall by Susan Ee

5.0

I thought this book was wonderful, it really took an unusual approach to angels. I completed this book in one day. The Genre is a mixture of post-apocalyptic distopian future, horror and a slight hint of romance (the romance is not the focus of the story and is only developing).

It is based in a post apocalyptic world where the angels have destroyed everything. Humans are savaging for safety and supplies, some humans have even turned against others merely to survive.

The Angels are NOT the good guys

The characters are great. The lead character Penryn is a very confident bold female character. She isn't afraid to get her hands dirty and is not a damsel in distress. she comes from a very dysfunctional family, no father, a crazy mum and a disabled sister who she loves. I also found the character of Raffe was enchanting and refreshing, I love the fact there is no immediate love story in this novel but it does grow and is noticeable. Although there is a slight romance element it is not overwhelming and usually there is too much going on in Penryn's life to even think about love.

The ending was truly amazing with an element of horror. I found it rather sad at times and shows the extent of what the angels are doing. But so gruesome and shocking, very unexpected (although there was a tiny bit of foreshadowing but not enough to give the game away)

Wonderful book, I would thoroughly recommend it.
