This book was a surprise and a choice made purely to use an Audible credit AND YET it was soooo good. This was a particular combination I have not really read before or much of, to my recollection.  Its a post apocalyptic fae/ faerie fantasy. The magic system makes enough sense for me to not have too many 'huh' questions or moments. I find the hounds and otherworlders so intriguing! This. book does such a good job of blending fantasy and reality in a way that works beautifully. In a way that makes sense and feels real. The main character [Joy]  definitely has more to show and more to learn as the story progresses  which has me anticipating book two. Even tho the book ends concretely it feels like it doesn't. The author makes you want to jump right into the next book.

So far Joy has the largest pack known to humans so far and im interested to how the author is going to manage this going forward. Oh! And the fae, or in this book called the folk, have so much more to contribute to the plot- they made only a teasing appearance in this book, but I [and Joy] cannot get that out of my mind. I know theyre going to play a lot larger part before the ned. All in all this was a superb listen!
