Echo Park by Michael Connelly

Bosch, back on the job, is working an old cold-case of his when someone ends up wanting to confess.

Lots of Bosch doing his cowboy thing. I'm conflicted about his character. There's plenty of him getting to show righteous indignation against the messed up system, against those who aren't "true detectives," against cops and politicians only wanting to get ahead. He's also an asshole. To be fair, Connelly shows that his choices aren't always the best. That and other parts of the writing are what keep me going, but I'd like to find detective stories of a different tone.

Not sure if this was intentional, but one of the criminals is named Waits and Bosch's partner is Rider. Made me think of the Rider-Waite tarot deck. I'm not familiar enough with it or interested enough at the moment to dig deeper and see if there's a tarot connection, but it might be fun.
