Silverborn: The Mystery of Morrigan Crow
by Jessica Townsend
“I just wanted the world to be a softer place for you.”
Every time I read another book in this series, I second guess my recollection of how much I enjoyed the previous one and wonder if this series is as excellent as I remember it being. And then I dive in and it’s every bit as wonderful as I had hoped! Silverborn was truly everything I hoped for and more, and I think it might be my favorite of the series so far!
We have the usual relevant social commentary, excellently awkward character relationships, and delightful dialogue found in each installment so far. Additionally, we have very age appropriate teenage angst, characters learning to depend on and trust each other, secrets and hurt feelings with reunions that may bring tears to the reader’s eyes (I cried twice!), insights (and gossip!!) into the aristocratic society of Nevermoor, several extremely complicated family dynamics, and some really fun mysteries to solve.
This was a middle grade book that kept this adult intrigued and excited throughout, and it had enough depth and character development and intrigue to make buddy reading discussions a fabulous accompaniment to the reading. My only issue with the book is the knowledge that we’ll likely have to wait years for the next installment! But I already have a feeling that, like Silverborn, it’ll be well worth the wait.
