A Local Habitation by Seanan McGuire

4.0

I love this series completely. But this book… eh.

Flawed premise, obvious clues to the mystery that keep getting ignored, and a little too much foreshadowing that made the reveals less than surprising. In a way I agree with the girl who wrote the review that says Toby Daye is a terrible detective. I didn't love this book.

HOWEVER, I'm still giving it four stars because it moved some relationships forward and did a brilliant job building on the wonderful world McGuire has built, and I think some of the context surrounding Toby's magic and the mythology of Faerie is key to understanding elements in later books.

Felt like I had to slog through the book to get there, though. I have higher hopes for the books later in the series.
