Final Offer by Lauren Asher

5.0

content: Substance addiction, alcoholism, brief mentions of terminal illness, death of a parent (off-page), grief, and parental verbal abuse.

Second chance romance, single mom, lake house, trust issues and addiction. I had a feeling I was going to fall in love with Cal and I was absolutely right, but he definitely had way more layers than I was expecting. Did he always own up to his mistakes? Not really, but at the same time I think he knew he did wrong and rather than dwelling on it he wanted to fix it and yes, he let his money do the talking sometimes, but that’s what he knows. I know it doesn’t make it right, but I also think he realized he wouldn’t be able to get what he truly wanted without there being some changes.

Each book in the series took a different approach to romance and in this one it had a big theme of family. Alana was a great mom, and she had to not only protect her heart but her daughter’s heart too. And Cami was such a sweetheart. I was a little disappointed I never got to read Declan’s letter from his grandpa, but not only did we get to read Cal’s but we got to see the results of the Kane brother’s efforts in the final reading of the will, and we got some closure on the brother’s relationship with their father, and the epilogues showed us a glimpse into the future. I’m gonna miss these characters, but I am happy they’re popping up in other books the author is writing.
