Historical fiction is not my genre, most certainly not this time period.
I read it because i studied plant sciences and thought it therefore to be a fun read. I must say I did enjoy the parts that were about the tulip. And the parts where the obsession with the tulip was beautifully described. However I just did not care for the characters and sadly they took the main stage. I was hoping it would go a bit more into the tulip mania that happened after with the marbled tulips (that were caused by viruses! (the more you know)) but it was sadly not mentioned.
I did learn something about Dutch history by reading this book, do that's something but the fact that it was on English, translated from French and set in The Netherlands did give me a headache while reading sometimes "^^
It was okay, won't ever consider to reread it though
Oh yeah like I know it is set in the past and that at the time this was rather nor al but it did ick me that Cornelius was almost ten years older than Rosa (who is 17/18 in this book) aka that did not age well...
