It Had to Be a Duke by Vivienne Lorret

4.0

Oh I love this book so so much!!! It’s looking like this new series of VL’s involved the heroines telling a lie and the heroes coming in to face them. This book ends on a pretty major cliffhanger for the next one and I can’t wait!!!
As for this story, I loved verity. She was so accidentally messy. She really had the best of intentions but she was always somehow getting into ridiculous situations and I loved her right from the beginning. As we dig deeper into her character though, she’s also just a very sweet, endearing character, with a lot of fears that are very well justified by the author.
Longhurst is a starchy hero bound by duty that starts unraveling the minute he meets the chaotic verity and her family. I love it when this happens!
I also have to say that I love how “the other woman” was approached and handled in this story. I hope one day we get to see her story too!

This would’ve been an easy 5 stars but I’m feeling stingy and I didn’t love the third act conflict that felt very contrived.
