Drop Dead Gorgeous by Lauren Landish

5.0

A Romance Heroine...and Coroner? I never expected it, but it works in this book.

Zoey and Blake are total #goals. These two are precious! I love their rapport and the way they bond over their geeky tendencies. I also love that they both know that they aren’t perfect, but they see the things about themselves that are attractive. All the while, understanding why they haven’t met ‘the one’ yet. They each knew deep down that they were going to need unique partners, and I love that neither of them tried to force themselves into a ‘normal’ box just to be less lonely.

Blake manages to be the absolute dream alpha hero while still being the kind of guy you’d love to meet in real life. He’s so patient with Zoey and more than happy to put in the work for her because he knows she’s special. Adding wooden touches all over his house? Swoon. Also his closeness with his family and his dog? I totally understand why Zoey’s ovaries wanted to explode!

Zoey was less than perfect, but honestly, I loved that about her. She’d been through some really hard times. There were a few points when I wondered why she didn’t just leave her town full of jerks. Honestly, they started to frustrate me way too much a couple of times. But, the more I read, the more I understood why she put up with it. I won’t share my revelation, I’ll let you get there on your own. Just give her a chance if you get frustrated with her. There’s no ‘big reveal’, but your light bulb should go off eventually...if not sooner.

I have loved Lauren Landish’s fake wedding trilogy and The Dare is a personal favorite so I picked this one up as soon as I saw it advertised. And I’m really glad I did. It’s a sweet and special escape from reality that is pretty unexpected. The mystery aspect of it was predictable, but not predictable, if that makes sense. I love a little cliche in my romances, but I also love some surprises. And I truly enjoyed how Ms. Landish put this together. She’s securing her one-click status for me, for sure.

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet romantic comedy. If you like a touch of mystery with your romance, even better! Also, she added a whole new Goodreads shelf for me with her ‘wholesome alpha hero’. Seriously, Blake is the best example of ‘book boyfriend that I’d actually love to have in real life’ that I’ve read in a while. And there are some truly great lines in this one that are massively quote-able. Enjoy!
