I really loved how this was read on audible. I was surprised by a thing or two, although I tend to predict twists fairly well. Even where I guessed correctly, it was written fine enough that I had basically only assumed the bones of it. It took me a month to read a nonfiction book slightly shorter than this one, while I read this one in a week. It won't change your life, but it is enjoyable.
Graphic: Death, Gore, Mental illness, Slavery, Suicidal thoughts, Police brutality, Grief, Murder, War, Classism
Moderate: Animal death, Confinement, Cursing, Panic attacks/disorders, Suicidal thoughts, Blood, Alcohol, Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Adult/minor relationship, Child death, Pedophilia, Xenophobia, Death of parent
Limited acceptance of homosexuality within the ancient society, the narrator seems respectful towards a nonbinary oracle, gender roles not super limited but are discussed a couple times, body observations discussed in relation to starvation due to famine.
