I absolutely loved Heartless Hunter and was so excited to read the second book in this duology, Rebel Witch! This is marketed as Young Adult, but I’m far from that age and I loved it. It’s got witches with an interesting magic system (there’s blood involved, but not in a gory way for the most part)), romance between enemies, action scenes, and more. In fact, the tag line is “Love has never been so deadly.”

Rune and Gideon are wonderful characters with interesting (and heartbreaking) backstories. They have real chemistry but their life purposes are diametrically opposed: she’s a witch and he’s a witch hunter! It’s the ultimate enemies-to-lovers scenario.

I would not recommend reading this book without having read Heartless Hunter first; you would be confused and miss a LOT of backstory. That being said, the author does provide bits and pieces of their history along the way to help readers remember the important things from the first book.

I felt it got bogged down just a tad in the middle, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to keep turning the pages to see how everything would resolve. There are tons of action scenes throughout, with either Rune or Gideon or both of them trying to outrun or outsmart their pursuers.

A huge thank you to Wednesday Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
