This Ravenous Fate
by Hayley Dennings
This Ravenous Fate gives us vampire x vampire hunter, set in 1920s Harlem. I loved the premise of this book, and Hayley Dennings also pulls in themes of racism, classism and corrupt wealth systems which add to the complexity of the world our MCs find themselves in.
The best way I can describe this book overall is 'fine'. I found the pacing of the plot to be extremely slow which made it harder to be captivated by the story. I do think this one had a lot of potential, but it fell a little short for me. The heavier themes felt a bit on the nose, with more "telling" than "showing" the impacts. Overall the story felt a bit juvenile, which I give some grace to because I understand it is a YA fantasy, but I wish the characters - specifically the adult characters - had a bit more depth to them.
I will definitely give this author another try with future releases, this one just didn't stand out for me.
