I have very mixed feelings about this book. It has all the makings of a YA dystopian trope and some of the pacing and character development is questionable to say the least, but honestly it was really enjoyable!
Our main character Zea has great potential to be a strong female lead who is essentially a fighter but some of her dialogue is not great quality and I found her a little frustrating at times. The world of is set in is a little cliche with the 'Echelons' basically substituting the districts from the Hunger Games but boy when the story really hit its stride I couldn't put it down!
I recommend this book to anyone who likes YA dystopian fiction, it will be a fast read that ends in a manner that really makes you want to go into book 2 straight away but be warned the writing has some flaws and the main character may annoy you slightly - don't let that stop you from reading it, just persevere through those elements and you will be rewarded. I'm off to start book 2 now
