The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks, Sarah Pekkanen
4.0

I have read all the books written by the Hendricks/Pekkanen duo and I have to say, they are hit or miss. I’m happy to report that I enjoyed The Golden Couple much more than I enjoyed their last book [b:You Are Not Alone|45046742|You Are Not Alone|Greer Hendricks|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582724709l/45046742._SY75_.jpg|69749652].

The plot unfolds through the telling of two narrators: Marissa, one half of the “Golden Couple” named in the title, and Avery, their counselor – who up until a few months ago, was a licensed therapist but has since has her licensed revoked due to some questionable methods.

The story develops slowly. The 40% of the book reads more as domestic fiction rather than domestic or psychological suspense, which is what I was expecting. Things pick up around the halfway point and there are some fun twists and turns. By the end, I had no idea whom to trust or what happened over twenty years ago. I found myself mostly satisfied by the ending but could have done without the last chapter as I’m not sure what it added to the story. The storyline with Avery and the pharmaceutical company felt convoluted and made things overly complicated.
