A former housemaid's family moves across a troubled house assuming the neighborhood is good & silent.

Pick it up if you want to read a simple, engaging & almost predictable thriller with an emotional twist.

The reason I'm chasing to read Frieda McFadden's books was the first book I read by her The Housemaid. So this series has been really special & obviously I picked this one up immediately as it got released.

This book is the 3rd in the series of The Housemaid series & it's set in 10 years in future, where we get to see the protagonist Millie Calloway living happily married with her family; Enzo: her husband & Ada and Nico: her 15 years old daughter & 3 years old son.

They move into a new house in the suburbs and slowly gets to know her neighbours; Janice & son who lives across their house and Suzette & her husband whose house is adjacent to theirs.

The story slowly progresses as we get to know the nature of the neighbours and Millie's own family problems from financial constraints to afford her dream house to her bright & outgoing son suddenly starting to act out.

For the first few pages we get to see Suzette & Millie family dinner, a job offer from her to Enzo & an outing that ends up is someone almost drowning.

Then comes the obvious murder of Suzette's husband. And the rest of the storyline focuses on who might have done that.

If you enjoyed The Housemaid books, & you expect the same level of suspense there is a probability you might be disappointed. But if you are not one for reading the series book in order & want a good & easy mystery read this will definitely be a great pick.

So yeah, if you see this as a separate storyline, it has the potential to be a great book.

The book builds the suspense and it really becomes pretty predictable as you know the Enzo's character from the previous books. The end twist might have been a shocking one but I felt it didn't land well.

And I personally enjoyed reading this, as these characters have been so special but I feel this should be the final one in the series. Unless, the storylines change into a totally different direction.
