Fatal Alliance by Sean Williams
2.0
"We have no leader."
I finished it and I only 1 star books I do not finish. So two. But, it took me awhile. It was extremely easy to lose interest. I read it on and off for 1 month and then didn't touch it again for 3 months. Mostly finishing it for the sake of it. I was so close.
Why? The characters, plot, storytelling, etc all leave a lot to be desired. The more interesting characters do not get enough page time. It felt like a chore to read.
This is only recommended for the diehards who JUST HAVE to read the series. None of the first two books play a role, other than where the galaxy is at this point in time. You do get slight hints at Satale Shan's character development (which really happened in the several years between the setting of this book and the last).
Honestly, you could read the summary on fandom or something and be fine. It'll take less time and likely be the better read than this book. The great crime of this book is likely the fact it makes me NOT want to read book four, even though I know it's not by the same author. A better author pens the finale and I enjoy that author's work, but I'm still struggling after finishing this.
At least the cover looked cool I guess.
