To Be Taught, If Fortunate by Becky Chambers
5.0

This book is absolutely fantastic.

It's the twenty-second century and Lawki 6 is sent to boldly scientifically explore where no one has explored before.

The crew has four members who are 'genetically engineered' via patches to make their bodies ready for the different worlds and the time they spend in transit: Ariadne, our pansexual narrator and flight engineer, Elena, queer meteorologist, Jack, a trans geologist, and Chikondi, an asexual biologist.

With a lag of 14 years, the messages they receive from earth are out of date once they arrive and become less and less important for them, while they discover new forms of life on the different planets.

A wonderfully crafted, fascinating story that remains utterly human in its core. Please write more books, Becky!
