Book Lovers by Emily Henry
2.0
Book Lovers is my first read of 2024. There is too much hype around this book - there, I said it. I was contemplating whether or not to give a bad review for this book, and it turns out I'm not alone in that! I think the title alone makes people interested in reading it, especially those who love reading books and enemies-to-lovers tropes. It is a good book, but for me, it falls short of my expectations.
SPOILER ALERT
Nora's more of a workaholic than a 'shark', and her unpleasant encounter with Charlie doesn't scream rivalry. Imagine if they were both editors fighting for a killer book to be the chosen editor of a famous book, that would've spiced things up. Their chemistry felt flat despite some lovey-dovey moments.
Nora's dynamic with Libby is affected by their grief after their mother's passing. She treats her more as a child than a sister. Their relationship steals the spotlight from the romance.
The story's length felt too long, which is ironic since the main characters are book editors (well, one is). Am I too harsh?
Overall, I thought the book was written well, with some sweet sisterly and romantic moments, but it failed to tug at my heartstrings as I hoped it would.
I would still recommend this book since it might be your cup of tea and tug at your heartstrings!
