House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

5.0

Let it be known I make poor choices. It is 1:15 am as I write this.
This book was fucking terrific. It had a ton of swearing, heartbreaking moments, sassy characters, a really cool plot (I love mixing murder mysteries with fantasy [ex: ninth house])
I literally had goosebumps every time a chapter ended starting around chapter 70 onwards.
If I’m being completely honest, this book seems complete enough (and large enough tbh) to be a stand alone book. And that last time I thought that about one of Maas’s books, it was with ACOTAR, and we all know those books improved over the course of the series. I am very excited to see what this series entails.
I can foresee one problem presenting itself, though. Maas has a tendency to write her romances ...heavily. It’s fine when it’s will they won’t they, but when they do get together they spend half the series mentally undressing each other and having sex which can get annoying. Since this has happened in both of her previous series, I expect this one will be no different.

I really liked how this was clearly a fantasy world, with far, vamps, werewolves, angels, and humans, but it was set in a modern almost six-fi world. In that, it reminds me greatly of Cassandra Clare’s world building and structure which I greatly enjoy, so I’m excited to see how this turns out!
