Three Perfect Liars
by Heidi Perks
Laura is returning to work after maternity leave and is furious to find that Mia, who was brought in to cover her post, has now been kept on permanently and given Laura’s biggest client but it seems Mia might have had an ulterior motive for wanting Laura’s job. Janie is the wife of their boss, Harry, and is unhappily married and carrying some baggage from her past.
The book starts with a fire at the advertising agency which connects the three women and the story then jumps back in time to show us (from all three perspectives) the weeks leading up to the fire, leaving us to work out both who started it and who has been killed in it.
I thought the premise of this book was really good but unfortunately it didn’t blow me away as it was just too much of a slow burner. It started well but the middle section felt repetitive with not very much happening, and the ending, which I was hoping would redeem some of the earlier slowness, felt anticlimactic after such a big build up.
This book was marketed as a thriller but to me it was more of an office drama with some suspense. It was missing a lot of the edge of your seat stuff that I expect in a thriller. I was looking forward to this one and while I didn’t dislike it, I didn’t love it either. Suspect this book might be enjoyed more by someone who is just trying out the thriller genre. Ah well can’t win them all! Thanks to Netgalley for the ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
