The First to Die at the End by Adam Silvera
4.0

I waited almost a year to pick this one up since I knew what I was getting into with the Death Cast universe. This is a prequel to They Both Die at the End and it hits just as hard for me.

This book takes place on the eve of the launch of Death Cast. Two strangers are unexpectedly connected and must navigate the first End Day together. I love reading Orion and Valentino’s POV chapters. There were times I had to put the book down and walk away because of the reality of their universe and knowing what was coming.

I could have done without the POV’s of the Rojas family though. I suspended disbelief for the first book and just went with the Death Cast system. This book mentions multiple times that they just can’t disclose how Death Cast works (like every 5 chapters they bring it up) but that you should just trust them. They spoke to the CIA after all and got their backing
