A quest to save a princess and rescue a kingdom from dark magic, a welcoming group of traveling musicians, shape-shifting ruling wolves, and fated mates makes up this smorgasbord of a fast-paced, atmospheric fantasy. Library Journal's review ends with, "Mumford's romantic fantasy plays with fairy tales, explores gender roles and societal expectation, and starts a delightful trilogy of wolf royalty." I suggest this for fans of romantasy, fairytale retellings (this one is a spin on Sleeping Beauty), and found family. The protagonist is genderqueer (ownvoices), and there are other queer side characters throughout the story.
