The Setting Sun
by Osamu Dazai
Dazais way of writing is probably one of the best examples of "hauntingly beautiful". I am no literary scholar, so I cannot quite pinpoint what makes his writings so extraordinary, but when you read "The Setting Sun" you cannot help but feel exactly what he wants you to feel. The characters are (so to say) full of life and their problems and sorrow feel all too real. Dazai paints a disturbing, yet beautiful picture of post-war Japan and transports you back into a world torn between hope and despair.
