Strange Little Ghouls by Wendy Dalrymple

5.0

4.5, rounded up. Here's a little review for each story:

1. "I'm Turning into You": A nice little piece of flash fiction to start things off.
2. "Run For Your Life": My favorite in the collection. Really unique, and I didn't expect it to be... well, you have to read it! It took me by surprise.
3. "Diana Davidson Wins First Place": This one is a heavy hitter revenge tale. I appreciate the originality of how the story is told, but it is a little difficult to follow, and while reading I felt like I was missing something.
4. "Candy Sparkles": Jingle All the Way meets Chucky. I like it.
5. "Dress to Impress": This one is so fun (and gross). It made me smile. I don't know what that says about me, but I do know it means the story is great!
6. "No Vacancy at the Flamingo Hotel": This one is spooky! I think the writing is stronger in the other stories, but the atmosphere in this is perfect.
7. "Sunset Village": Creepy and so very Florida. Here we see the real horrors of retirement homes.
8. "From Whence We Came": This is a perfect Southern Gothic. I got a great "A Rose for Emily" vibe from the beginning, and then a little cosmic horror thrown in.
